Construction Operations Manager
David joined Van Buskirk Construction in 2013 with nearly 30 years experience managing a diverse catalogue of construction projects. David prides himself on a results driven management style and uses a keen eye to protect the interests of our clients at every opportunity.
David’s career experience includes site development, soils management, utility and drainage construction along with all building types including pre-engineered steel buildings, precast and bar joist type construction, steel stud and wood frame construction. With this experience along with his education as a LEED Accredited Professional and Mechanical Engineer, he has the insight to look for the right solution to every challenge and keep your project on track.
With the growth of Van Buskirk Construction, David has excelled to Construction Operations Manager and provides leadership guidance of both projects and project managers. Clients have found this to be a welcome comfort in an intimating process as he takes your projects as seriously as our own and invests himself sincerely in our initiative to be a valued, trusted partner.
Outside the office, his hobbies include boating, golf, travel and relaxing on the deck.
Project Manager / Civil Engineer
As the company’s first engineer, Dan has increased the efficiency of site development process and brought 22 years of experience. He produces site plans for our commercial and residential projects while complying with city ordinances, regulations, and client requests. The uniqueness of this engineering role drew him to Van Buskirk Companies and he enjoys the ability to design directly with the developers and clients. At the office, you’ll find him drafting in AutoCad, calculating water runoff, or guiding engineering plans through the next phase of approval. Outside the office, you’ll find him playing “old man hockey” or tossing in a fishing line.
Contract Manager / Safety Manager
As a part of the construction team, Thomas administers the construction contracts, monitors financial aspects of projects, and manages the safety program. On any given day, you can find him walking through project sites, working with the accounting team, or editing the latest update to the safety manual. With a background in multiple areas of the construction industry, he brings over 11 years of diverse experience to the team. They lean on him for a strong eye to detail, organization, and concise communication. Outside the office, you can find him enjoying time with his wife, two adorable little kids, and their Siberian husky.
Bringing twenty eight years of construction experience and three years of land surveying, John joined the Van Buskirk Construction team as a Construction Superintendent. He has a Bachelor of Science in Construction Engineering Technology from Montana State University. Our reputation for quality work in Sioux Falls and surrounding communities is what drew him to apply. Off the job site, John is pursuing his Masters of Arts in Biblical Counseling and enjoys volunteering with Prison Lighthouse Fellowship.
When Kevin began with Van Buskirk Construction in 2015, he brought thirty seven years of experience in multiple areas of the construction industry. The diverse background gives him the knowledge he needs as a project manager. The day to day finds him reviewing drawings, formulating schedules, approving contracts, and visiting job sites for inspections. His list of VBCC projects include Marketplace at Lake Lorraine, Prairie Creek Pet Hospital, First Adventure Daycare, and the Mc Crossan Administration Building. Life outside the office finds him in his woodworking shop often crafting grandfather clocks and other treasures. He also enjoys timber framing and is building a timber frame home of his own!
Michael brings over 20 years of experience to our team along with a Architecture and Environmental Design degree from North Dakota State University. While keeping clients’ needs and desires at the forefront, he assists with project design, prepares construction timelines, estimates, and coordinates the project from start to finish. His eye for design and communication skills are a key component to our high level of service we provide. Outside the office, you can find him solving crossword puzzles, reading or traveling.
In mid 2016, Trent joined the construction team as a Project Coordinator and brought 15 years of experience. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree from Dordt College Currently, he is helping keep the construction team’s largest project, The Shoppes at Lake Lorraine, organized and on track. The team appreciates his hard work ethic, diverse skill set, and willingness to learn. He enjoys coming to work every day and feeling like you are a part of a family that works well together. Off the job, he enjoys camping, boating, hunting, and spending time with his wife and kids.
Construction Administrative Assistant
With a Master’s in Architecture from the University of Nebraska, Sandy brings architectural insight and experience to her role as Construction Administrative Assistant. Her previous work in the architecture/construction field and five years of administrative experience are a perfect fit for keeping the construction department running smoothly and efficiently. Sandy likes spending time discovering all the city parks with her husband and two kids.
Dean joined the construction team in 2003 and worked his way to a superintendent role. He directs and coordinates the construction field activities ensuring our projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to a high level of quality.
In 2013, Chad joined the construction team as a field worker and in 2016 was promoted to a superintendent role. He directs and coordinates the construction field activities ensuring our projects are completed on schedule, within budget, and to a high level of quality. When he’s not at one of our construction sites, you can find him refereeing high school basketball.
