Position Description:  Perform any combination from routine to complex calculating, posting, and verifying accounting duties to obtain primary financial data for use in maintaining accounting records. May also check the accuracy of figures, calculations, and postings pertaining to business transactions.  Reports to the Accounting Manager. Cost accounting for various phases of residential subdivision construction. Assists in the preparation of monthly financial reports to accurately show income, expenses, and lot cost. Requires understanding of accrual costs and the ability to allocate costs to the proper asset account.

 

 

Essential Job Functions/Scope:

1.Compiles, Processes and Maintains inter-company A/P and A/R Records.

2.Post Financial Transactions and Journal Entries as Directed.

3.Assist with Commercial and Residential Property Accounting.

4.Assist with Monthly and Year End Financial Closing.

5.Fixed Asset Accounting and Record Keeping.

6.Cost Accounting and Financial Accounting for Land Development.

7.Property Tax and Insurance Record Keeping and Bill Payment.

 

Primary Goals and Responsibilities:

1.Compiles, Processes and Maintains inter-company A/P and A/R Records.

a.Creates invoices for inter-company payments.

b.Creates bills for allocated inter-company payments.

c.Ensures bills and invoices accurately match between companies.

2.Post Financial Transactions and Journal Entries as Directed.

a.Post financial transactions as directed.

b.Post journal entries as directed.

3.Assist with Commercial and Residential Property Accounting.

a.Supports Property Management team for commercial and residential accounting.

b.Updates G/L codes, allocations, and re-allocations as required.

c.Performs data entry as required.

4.Assist with Monthly and Year End Financial Closing.

a.Verifies monthly account balancing.

b.Assists with year-end process to close the company books for multiple internal and external companies to ensure deadlines are met. 

5.Fixed Asset Accounting and Record Keeping.

  1. Maintain fixed asset listing.
  2. Ensure all registration and licensing bills are entered and paid.
  3. Report asset purchases, sales, and disposals as directed.

6.Cost Accounting and Financial Accounting for Land Development.

  1. Enters and pays bills in accordance with accurate cost accounting

b.Prepare financial statements for subdivisions as directed.

c.Maintain property inventory.

d.Record sales transactions and prepare bank deposit for sales.

e.Assist Land Development team with financial reports and accounting analysis as required.

7.Property Tax and Insurance Record Keeping and Bill Payment.

a.Enter all property tax bills.

b.Enter all Insurance bills.

c.Allocate prepaid and expenses appropriately for property taxes and insurance.

d.Pay property tax and insurance bills.

 

Knowledge and Critical Skills/Expertise:

  • Excellent communication skills including active listening, speaking, reading comprehension, and social perceptiveness.
  • Eye for detail – accuracy is paramount.
  • Critical thinking, using logic and reasoning to identify the strengths and weaknesses of alternative solutions, conclusions, or approaches to problems.
  • Ability to prioritize and multi-task in a fast-paced environment and meet numerous deadlines.
  • Ability to handle confidential information in a discreet, professional manner.
  • Identifying complex problems and reviewing related information to development and evaluation options and implement solutions.
  • Knowledge of arithmetic, algebra, statistics, and their applications.
  • Knowledge of computers and software and the ability to quickly learn new software programs. Quickbooks and Rent Manager experience preferred.

Required Experience/Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
  • Self-starter and self-motivated with ability to set and meet goals.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work positively, efficiently, and effectively in a fast-paced, changing environment.
  • Great team player with the ability to work independently and as a team successfully to support the accounting department and the other departments accounting supports.

Environmental Conditions:

  • The job is periodically sedentary but requires mobility at times.
  • This position requires sitting, walking, or standing for prolonged periods of time and stooping for brief periods of time.
  • There is some repetitive motion of the hands and wrists associated with using a computer.
