Van Buskirk Companies is excited to announce Creative Steps Childcare will be opening September 5th in our Copper Creek Development, located on the southeast corner of East 26th Street and SD Highway 11.  Our construction team just completed the 8,400 square foot building that features a gym, full kitchen, activity room, imagination room, curriculum room, and individual classrooms for each level of child development.

The owners, Cassie Reed and Amanda Perrion, have over 10 years of combined experience in education and working with children.  Their goal is to provide a secure, interactive, and enriching environment for children ranging from ages 6 weeks to 6 years old.

“To craft our design and vision, we visited other childcare centers, leveraged our education experience, and researched successful learning environments.  From there, we sketched out our ideas and took them to Van Buskirk Companies – who turned our vision into a reality!”  said owner, Amanda Perrion.

Creative Steps tailors their curriculum to each age level and has a unique approach to their preschool curriculum. Children will rotate rooms to experience different environments, but remain with the same lead teacher throughout their day.  For example, one room is The Imagination Room, where kids are encouraged to use their creative thinking skills.  One day, the room may be set up as a grocery store, and the next day it may be a library.  Their Cafeteria also serves as the Activity Room, where kids will have tactile learning experiences such as arts and crafts.  Another room is their Curriculum Room, where the children are seated at tables, learning how to perform written school work/homework.

“Our goal is that when kids enter a room, they know what to expect, along with having their lead teacher throughout the day to enhance consistency,” said Cassie Reed.

Amanda and Cassie also recognize a key to their success is open communication with parents. Their staff will use the Brightwheel© app in all their classrooms, which allows parents to have a real time video feed of the classroom and a summary of their child’s day.  It also allows teachers to share photos and other special moments with the parents.

“I am a mom and know first hand how much parents like to know about their child’s day, so Brightwheel© will be an excellent tool,” said Cassie Reed.  “It is important for parents to know they are leaving their kids in capable hands, which is why we are carefully selecting our staff.  Each staff member we’ve hired thus far has a background in early childhood education.”

Over the past couple weeks, the daycare has held some open houses and response has been great. “We are excited to be the first daycare in this area and provide this service to east Sioux Falls,” said Cassie.

For parents who are seeking daycare for their children, Creative Steps still has some full time openings, along with a limited amount of part time openings.  For more information, contact creativestepssf@gmail.com or follow their Facebook page.
