Van Buskirk Companies Brings National Attention to Sioux Falls at Chicago Retail Event
Last week, Ryan Tysdal, Commercial Broker at Van Buskirk Companies, attended a Retail Deal Making Event hosted by the International Council of Shopping Centers (ICSC) in Chicago in order to talk to national retailers and restaurants about opening new or additional locations in Sioux Falls. While he can’t disclose specific details quite yet, he can tell you that some new locations will be opening around the area in 2020 as a result of his meetings in Chicago, and that there is a wide variety of retailers interested in our market.
“All of the retailers I met with are national retailers looking for sites in South Dakota, and we expect to have some exciting announcements in the coming weeks and months,” he says. Ryan says he is working up deals on every side of the city. Because Van Buskirk Companies offers a large inventory of available locations, they have a lot to offer potential retailers. “In addition to adding sites for existing retailers and restaurants, we are also working with national retailers who are not here yet. Many times, that involves securing multiple sites at once for certain retailers. For instance, earlier this year, we announced the first Jersey Mike’s Subs location at 57th & Louise, and are currently securing additional sites for them to adequately cover the city,” he says.
Some of the new trends Ryan noticed at ICSC include growth in the ‘value’ retailers like AT HOME, Marshalls, Home Goods and TJ Maxx. He says retailers are also looking for an “experience” location that offers more than just stores lined up next to each other on the street. “That’s exactly why Lake Lorraine is designed with a walking path around the lake that connects the different areas and offers more than just shopping. While the development isn’t complete yet, it will be a unique experience for the public when it’s finished,” he says. “The Bridges at 57th Street was also designed to be a lifestyle center, with a park-like atmosphere and a mix of locally owned retailers, services and restaurants all in one place.”
While Ryan was in Chicago, he spent most of his time in conversation with potential new clients, but did sneak in a trip to the Disney Store and the American Girl store. “I have three kids at home and would have been in trouble if I came home empty-handed!” he says.
